about us

John "Jay" Woodside owner/president of Scotsman Coin and Jewelry began collecting coins at the age of seven and has actively traded in numismatics since 1977 when he started working with his father, Robert Woodside. Five years later, Robert passed away and Jay, at the young age of 26, purchased Scotsman from Robert's two partners.  His knowledge of jewelry and diamonds has grown over the years, as he was able to combine the jewelry business with his already successful coin business.  His ability to grade and appraise diamonds accurately and his overall understanding of the diamond market has been saving people money for years.

Janice Woodsideemail janice@scoins.com
Jewelry Manager

Scotsman Coin and Jewelry, Inc. has been in the rare coin business since 1959, but it was Jay's sister Janice, as a teenager, who expanded the company's scope to include Jewelry. There is nobody more familiar with Scotsman's overall operations than Janice, as she has worn many hats at the company during her tenure. She is the ultimate trainer, the go-to person when unfamiliar situations arise, and the thread that keeps the Scotsman cloth intact. Oh, and she saves people a ton of money on their Jewelry purchases too.

Mary Woodside email mary@scoins.com
Assistant Jewelry Manager

Mary started working part-time for Scotsman when she was in high school. At the time, our Jewelry department was growing rapidly, so having an extra smiling face around the store on Saturday was greatly needed. Mary filled that role, but she turned out to be much more than just a smiling face. Before long, customers were coming by during the week asking for Mary. We are fortunate that Mary chose to work FULL TIME for Scotsman after graduating college with her Bachelors degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2009. She now spends her days buying and selling jewelry and also appraising and grading diamonds. Her friendly attitude, ability to adapt, and awareness of style continues to make “heroes” out of men who visit us to do their jewelry shopping.

Nikki Hendricks email nikki@scoins.com
Fine Jewelry Specialist

Nikki has been with the Scotsman family since 2005, and a friend for even longer. She graduated with a degree in education from Lindenwood University, but luckily for us, she decided to stay on as a key member of our jewelry department. While the majority of Mrs. Hendrick’s time is spent helping couples find their dream piece, it is not uncommon to see her appraising jewelry for sellers, or even pitching in on the coin side of our business. All of our customers love Nikki, and you will too.

Julie Woodside email juliew@scoins.com
Chief Financial Officer and Jewelry Sales

Julie Woodside has been in the collectibles industry since age 10, working with her father and brother on a daily basis at Scotsman. After graduating from Incarnate Word Acadamy High School in 2000, Julie temporarily left her father's business to attend The University of Missouri, Columbia (Mizzou) where she majored in Business Administration and Management and graduated with honors. Today, Julie is implementing her business and financial skills at Scotsman, primarily for financial planning and record-keeping, and with the overall authority and responsibility for the collection, disbursement, and daily management of funds. She is also very knowledgeable in jewelry sales and is able to help anyone find the perfect item for their jewelry collection.

Customer service is very important at Scotsman Jewelers. We want to help our customers in any way that we can. Our educated sales associates and diamond buyers can answer most of the questions you may have. We have a jeweler on premise so basically all of our jewelry repairs are completed in our store. We want all of our customers to be satisfied with their purchases and repairs. Our jeweler is eager to explain the repair process to those interested in learning. Our professionals are always available for free verbal appraisals and also written insurance appraisals for a small cost. The price is dependant upon the items that need to be reviewed and appraised.

We wanted to thank you for all of your help with our wedding rings and Kristen’s engagement ring. You were invaluable, and we know that you gave us fantastic deals on everything, which means a lot to two poor kids like us! We’re so grateful for all of your help. Thanks again!

We can’t thank you enough for all the time, craftsmanship, and thought that went into making our beautiful wedding bands and engagement ring. We are so happy with the way everything turned out. I can’t count the times a day I get stopped and commented on my ring. We will continue to recommend you for futures buyers.

I’ve worn my ring often, and it gives me a thrill each time I look at it. Allie loves her gold disc for her graduation. I’ve started a trend here for my other grandchildren; but it is a very nice one! I’ll need three in the next 6 years! Thank you for being so thoughtful and helpful.
